Bequinox Theme Camp FAQ

What are the criteria used to decide which camps get placement?

We use the same criteria as Burning Man.

  1. Camps that have a visually stimulating frontage, and welcoming camp layout.

  2. Camps must be interactive. They should include activities, happenings, or offerings within their camps and they must be available to our community. The amount of interactive offerings must be proportional to camp size.

    • Camps are encouraged to include interactivity that is different or unique.

    • Camps are encouraged to think outside the box.

    • Camps are encouraged to make sure that every camper contributes to their interactive offerings. This ensures that a camp’s offerings increase proportionally as its population does, which is key to receiving placement.

    • Camps are encouraged to create interactive experiences that clearly welcome other participants to join in the experience.

  3. Camps must be neighborly.

  4. Camps must have a good previous MOOP record (for returning camps).

  5. Camps must be safe.

  6. Camps must submit a complete application by the due date (this is the most common reason why theme camp applications are rejected for BEquinox).

When completing the application please try and ensure that the placement team can understand how your camp will be welcoming to participants and the interactivity you will provide.

What are the advantages of being a “placed theme camp”?

Placed theme camps have access to “directed ticket sales”, and they have a reserved location at BEquinox.

Will I know where my camp has been placed before arriving at BEquinox?

Yes. We will providing the placement intersection (e.g. High Noon and G) and not the exact location. There is always a chance that we will have to move camps around as circumstances change (please understand that stuff happens).

Can a Theme Camp Apply for Early Access (EA) passes?

Yes. As part of your theme camp application you were asked for an indication of the number of early access passes you would like. An Early Access Pass is good for one person. Not a vehicle full of people!

Will I need a Kern County Health Department Permit if I plan to gift food or drink?

Yes.  If you are serving food or drinks you will need a free permit and must follow the food and drink preparation and serving guidelines to help keep everyone healthy.   We will be able to assist you with this process.

When do I need to leave?

By 2:00 pm Sunday of the Event.

What happens when I reach gate?

Please let Gate staff know that you are a placed camp.  They will contact us and will take you to the location of your camp.    A member of the placement team will be available on Sunday and Monday.

There are other questions\answers\info that can be found in the BEQ Survival Guide located at bequinox.com in the Guides tab area.
